“Through a Lens Brightly”: my latest book project

A huge thank you to those of you still following this much-neglected blog. After a long break, I’m finally ready to update you on my latest project.

Over the last year I’ve been working on a new, non-fiction book that explores the impact of photography on mood, mental health and wellbeing. As well as writing about my personal experiences, I wanted to include the views of photographers from across the UK, so I put together a survey, which has had over 500 responses to date.

The replies have illustrated just how incredible an effect photography can have on people’s mental wellbeing, as an avenue for creative expression, as a form of mindfulness or stress relief, and as a way to appreciate and truly see the world around us. In some cases it has been transformational and a powerful aid to recovery from trauma.

I will be concluding the research phase at the end of October and after that I’ll be writing the book itself. I’ll be including my own images and a few from other photographers (with their permission obviously).

If you are an active photographer (any level of skill) and would like to take the survey, please do contact me. It is completely anonymous and takes around 15 minutes to complete. Thank you.
